Flowers and plants

The Pre IB Art 1 students drew flowers or plants on a colored background.  Students had to choose a composition that would run off the page and then they used pastels and charcoal to complete their picture.

The start of a new school year.

It's been a great start to the year and it has been nice to see all my returning students as well as the new students.  I think I have more Pre IB 9th graders than ever before.  We may be just four weeks into school but we have been busy.  Check out the great artwork below.

Pre IB Art 1 students created a text design that incorporated their name.

The Pre IB Art 2 student created abstract sculptures using styrofoam cups.  They were to consider occupied and unoccupied space in this introduction to 3D assignment.

AP Art students completed their first photography assignment looking for geometric shapes and using either repetition or emphasis to create visually interesting compositions.

Visual and Musical Game

I posted about this game the very first year I started this blog.  I'm happy to say it still exists.  It is beautiful visually and has music too.  Its a puzzle game but not too hard to figure out.  Check it out.

Mixed Media Bicycle Drawings in Pre IB Art 1

I love to get the students mixing medias when they work.  This assignment is similar to one I do with my AP students but instead of bottle we drew the bicycle.  Students started out by making a viewfinder to help them find a strong composition.  Then they drew three contour line drawings of different parts of the bicycle.  They picked their best one and developed it into a finished mixed media piece using tempera paint and pastels.

AP Art explores texture

This is always one of the favorite assignments in AP Art.  Students use modeling paste and found objects to build texture, then they use layers of glaze and acrylic to add color.
